A fresh low‑pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh, bringing the prospect of seven days of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
Director Manorama Mahanti said the system, influenced by an upper‑air cyclonic circulation, will cause widespread rain until August 29, with wind speeds reaching 40–60 km/h along the Odisha and north Andhra coasts. Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
⚠️ Weather Warnings:
- Red Warning: Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kataka, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi districts.
- Orange Warning: 14 districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
- Yellow Warning: 11 other districts.
Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning will continue statewide through Monday morning. From Tuesday onward, rainfall intensity will reduce along coastal areas but persist in upper Odisha for the next five days.
Authorities have urged residents in low‑lying regions to remain alert as river water levels may rise further.
