The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Odisha from August 24, influenced by two active cyclonic circulations in the region.
According to IMD, one circulation is concentrated over north Odisha and adjoining south Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, while the other is positioned over the west‑central and northwest Bay of Bengal, along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
Light to moderate rainfall has already been predicted in 21 districts today, with Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi expected to receive 7–11 cm of rain. A yellow alert has been issued for 17 districts, warning of thunderstorms and lightning.
The IMD stated that rainfall intensity will increase from August 24 and continue for five days across Odisha, raising concerns of waterlogging and flood‑like conditions in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety advisories as the state braces for another spell of heavy showers.
