A major road accident on National Highway 55 near Dangaghat bridge under Redhakhol police limits triggered an eight-hour traffic jam, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the route.
The collision between a trailer and a truck occurred late Saturday night, causing severe damage to both vehicles. The drivers of both vehicles sustained critical injuries and were initially admitted to Redhakhol Medical, before being shifted to Burla Hospital as their condition worsened.
Following the crash, traffic movement came to a standstill, with long queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometres. Police from Redhakhol station reached the spot and began efforts to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
Authorities said the cause of the accident is yet to be determined, though preliminary reports suggest poor visibility and slippery road conditions due to rain may have contributed.
The prolonged jam disrupted the movement of goods and passengers along the busy NH-55 corridor, connecting Sambalpur and Anugola, until police managed partial clearance by afternoon.
