Bangladesh created history on Sunday, defeating Australia by nine wickets to register their first Test victory on Australian soil.
The triumph makes Bangladesh only the third Asian team after India and Pakistan to win a Test in Australia, and the fastest to do so — achieving the milestone in just their third Test in the country.
Chasing a modest target of 57, Bangladesh sealed the win comfortably in the second session of Day Four, with Mominul Haque (30)* and Shadman Islam (25)* guiding the team home.
The victory was built on a strong first-innings total of 426, highlighted by Tanzid Hasan’s maiden century (101) and crucial contributions from Najmul Hossain Shanto (84) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (65).
Bangladesh’s bowlers then took charge. Hasan Mahmud claimed nine wickets across the match, including a six-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, named Player of the Match, bagged five wickets in the second innings, dismantling Australia’s batting lineup despite Cameron Green’s valiant 104.
Australia, bowled out for 198 and 284 in their two innings, failed to defend their home dominance against Asian sides. Bangladesh’s win marks their second Test victory in a SENA country, following their 2022 triumph over New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.
With this emphatic result, Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series, cementing one of the greatest moments in their cricketing history.
