A full emergency was declared at Chennai International Airport late Tuesday night after an IndiGo flight from Kolkata reported a technical snag in its left engine during final approach.
Flight 6E‑723, carrying 224 passengers and crew, alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC) at around 11:30 pm on August 11. Emergency protocols were activated, with fire tenders, rescue vehicles, and medical teams deployed around the runway.
The aircraft was given priority clearance and landed safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 pm. All passengers and crew disembarked unharmed, and the emergency was withdrawn at 11:47 pm.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating: “IndiGo flight 6E‑723 experienced a technical snag shortly before landing in Chennai. Following standard operating procedures, all relevant authorities were informed, and the pilots made a priority landing.”
The airline said the aircraft is undergoing inspection and maintenance before resuming operations. “At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority,” the statement added.
The incident comes just days after IndiGo marked 20 years of operations on August 4, underscoring the importance of safety protocols in India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector.
