A shocking murder has rocked Khmaramunda village, six kilometres from Balangir town, where Geetanjali Sadhangi (45) was found dead in her home.
Police suspect she was killed by a blunt force injury to the head, with deep wounds visible on her body. A scientific team accompanied by sniffer dogs reached the spot to begin the investigation. The body was sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for post‑mortem.
According to family members, Geetanjali had earlier survived a gun attack two years ago, though police found no leads at the time. Villagers now allege her murder may be linked to a land dispute. Reports suggest her three brothers had accepted advance money from a businessman to sell ancestral land, but Geetanjali, holding rights over the property, refused to sign.
Police have detained five people, including her brothers and two villagers, for questioning. SDPO Saroj Upadhyay and IIC Sanjay Routray are leading the probe, assuring that the culprits will be caught.
