Bhubaneswar: World’s No1 para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat has registered his first win at the ongoing 4th National Para-Badminton Championship in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Bhagat playing in front of the home crowd, beat Chandra Prakash in straight-sets, 21-12, 21-18 in Round of 32 of the men’s singles SL3 category.
Along with Bhagat, Tokyo Paralympics bronze medallist Manoj Sarkar also won the first tie. He beat Gourav Nihal 21-3, 21-7 in a Round of 32 of the men’s singles SL3 category.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday felicitated the Para badminton players who won the medals at the recent Tokyo Paralympics. He congratulated them on their spectacular performance in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, another Tokyo Paralympics gold medallist Krishna Nagar beat Sudharshan 21-12 21-12 in a 20-minute quarter-final clash in SH6 category.
Bhubaneswar hosted the 4th National Para-badminton championships starting from December 24th to 26th 2021. Over 500 shuttlers are competing in the three-day Para-Badminton tournament in Bhubaneswar.
