A 54‑year‑old woman died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection at a medicine store in Odisha’s Rayagada district, sparking outrage and a police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Bidia Kumar (54) of Getipada village under Chandili police limits, had been suffering from fever and cold for several days. On Thursday, she visited a medicine store in Chandili after her condition failed to improve.
It is alleged that a staff member, A.K. Bhatra, administered an injection to her. Shortly afterwards, Bidia developed severe adverse reactions and her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was rushed to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital, but died on the way.
Following the incident, her family lodged a complaint with Chandili police, accusing the staff of medical negligence. Based on the complaint, police detained the employee and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death. Officials said further action will be taken once the probe and medical reports are complete.
