Two miscreants posing as block officials duped a woman in Debapada village under Singla police limits, looting gold ornaments worth more than Rs 2 lakh by falsely claiming to deliver money under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
According to reports, the incident occurred around 10 am when the victim, wife of Parshuram Das, was alone at home. The duo arrived on a bike, introduced themselves as block employees, and claimed that funds under PMAY had been sanctioned in her name. They asked her to show her gold ornaments, saying they needed photographs for verification.
As soon as she brought out the jewellery, the miscreants snatched it and fled. The ornaments are estimated to be worth over Rs 2 lakh. Following the incident, Parshuram Das lodged a complaint at Singla police station.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the culprits.
