India’s javelin throwers delivered a historic double podium at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Neeraj Chopra winning silver and debutant Yashvir Singh clinching bronze in a dramatic final.

Chopra, returning from a lower back injury, produced a season’s best throw of 85.83m in his second attempt to secure silver. The Tokyo Olympic champion admitted he was still regaining full fitness but expressed satisfaction with his comeback performance.

Yashvir Singh stunned the field with a personal best of 85.41m in his sixth and final attempt, climbing from seventh to third place and sealing bronze. His effort marked a breakthrough moment in his debut Games.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, the season’s standout performer, claimed gold with a commanding 89.75m throw in his second attempt. Despite fouling his other five throws, his near‑90m effort proved untouchable.

India’s third entrant, Rohit Yadav, finished seventh with 81.56m. The event also saw Pakistan’s defending champion Arshad Nadeem eliminated early with 77.41m, while Trinidad’s Keshorn Walcott placed sixth.

With Chopra and Yashvir sharing the podium, India celebrated a 2‑3 finish, underscoring the nation’s growing dominance in javelin on the global stage.
