Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested Himanshu Das, former Managing Director of Betnoti Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (LAMPCS) Ltd. in Mayurbhanj district, for allegedly misappropriating ₹40.94 lakh.
According to the vigilance team, the irregularities took place during the financial year 2017–18. While serving as Managing Director, Das collected large sums from local loanee farmers towards repayment of agricultural and crop loans, member share capital contributions, application form fees, and administrative charges. He even issued money receipts to the farmers acknowledging the payments.
However, instead of depositing the collected amounts into the society’s official account, Das deliberately omitted these transactions from the Day Book of Betnoti LAMPCS and allegedly converted the funds for his personal use. The total amount siphoned off stands at Rs 40,94,306.
Baleshwar Vigilance Police Station has registered Case No. 12 dated 30 July 2026 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused. Das, who was dismissed from government service on 4 April 2022, is being produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada.
Officials confirmed that investigation into the case is currently in progress.
