The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna, has convicted Satya Narayan Choudhary, former Data Entry Operator at the office of the Tahasildar, Narla, in Kalahandi district, in a bribery case registered by Odisha Vigilance.
Choudhary, disengaged from service earlier, was charge‑sheeted under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a physically disabled applicant. The bribe was sought to furnish the applicant’s e‑district ID and password issued under the SAHAJ E‑Village Scheme.
The court sentenced Choudhary to one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine. The conviction underscores Vigilance’s continued crackdown on corruption in public offices, particularly cases involving exploitation of vulnerable citizens.
