The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill continuing as captain and KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and batter Sai Sudharsan have been included in the squad, but their participation will depend on fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Saransh Jain Receives Maiden India Test Call-Up
The biggest talking point in the squad is the inclusion of Saransh Jain, who has earned his maiden senior India call-up at the age of 33 after years of consistent performances in domestic cricket.
The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder, a right-arm off-spinner and left-handed batter, impressed selectors with his recent performances during the India A tour of Sri Lanka.
In the second unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A, Jain claimed six wickets across both innings and scored an unbeaten 70 runs, helping India A register a convincing 10-wicket victory and secure the series 1-0.
Washington Sundar Unavailable
With Washington Sundar unavailable for the opening Test, Saransh Jain strengthens India’s spin attack and provides additional batting depth in conditions expected to favour spinners.
Alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, Jain and Manav Suthar offer multiple spin options for the Sri Lanka tour.

India to Begin Preparations in Colombo
India will play a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7 before the Test series begins. The team management is expected to closely monitor the fitness of Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan ahead of the opening Test.
The squad reflects a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, with Saransh Jain’s long-awaited national call-up emerging as one of the biggest highlights of the selection.
