India continued their ruthless march through Zimbabwe with a commanding 90-run victory in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Put in to bat, India overcame early jitters to post a towering 219 for 5 – a total that proved far beyond Zimbabwe’s reach. What followed was a clinical bowling display that bundled the hosts out for just 129 in 17.5 overs, leaving the home crowd stunned into silence.

The foundations of the win were laid by a breathtaking 81 from Ishan Kishan. Walking in early, the left-hander played with pure intent, smashing nine fours and two sixes in a 44-ball masterpiece that neutralised any early pressure. Captain Shreyas Iyer added a steady 25, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s lightning 20 off nine balls set an aggressive tone from the outset.

Then came the finishing flourish. Tilak Varma, unfazed by the occasion, produced a sensational unbeaten 60 off just 29 deliveries, including a flurry of boundaries that pushed India past the 200-mark and into truly imposing territory.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers fought in patches – Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Brad Evans and Brian Bennett all claimed a wicket – but none could stem the tide once India’s middle order found rhythm.

Chasing 220 was always a mountain. Brian Bennett’s aggressive 32 off 19 gave the hosts brief hope, but the collapse was swift and clinical. Debutant Yash Thakur struck early and finished with two wickets. Prince Yadav removed both Ben Curran and skipper Sikandar Raza. Ravi Bishnoi controlled the middle overs with typical accuracy.

Then the surprise package arrived. Part-time spinner Abhishek Sharma turned the screws with a career-best 3 for 17, cleaning up the lower order and sealing the victory in emphatic fashion. Tilak Varma even chipped in with the ball for good measure.

Speaking after the match, a delighted Shreyas Iyer said: “It was a comprehensive win and every player contributed brilliantly. We initially felt 180 to 200 would be a par score, but getting to 220 was the icing on the cake. That is the approach we want as a team.”

Player of the Match Ishan Kishan was equally satisfied: “I did not think it was a wicket where you could just walk in and score freely… partnerships were very important. It is wonderful to see players like Mayank, Yash and Prince doing well.”

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza was gracious in defeat: “Credit must go to India because some of their shot-making and skill level was outstanding. There are a lot of lessons for us to take from this game.”

With the series already won and one match still remaining, India have sent a clear message: this young, fearless side is not here to merely compete – they are here to dominate.
