The Katarbaga Police in Sambalpur district have arrested a 24‑year‑old youth accused of raping and impregnating a minor girl after allegedly trapping her in a false relationship.
The accused, identified as Saudagar Singh of Chandamal village under Rengali police limits, had reportedly been in contact with the minor since November 2025. According to police sources, he lured her into a relationship and established physical contact multiple times. The girl later became seven months pregnant but kept the matter hidden from her family out of fear and social stigma.
When the accused learned of her pregnancy, he fled the area. On July 19, 2026, the victim approached Katarbaga Police Station and lodged a written complaint. Acting on the complaint, police registered Case No. 87/2026 under Sections 65(1) and 4(2)/6 of the POCSO Act and launched an investigation.
On Tuesday morning at 7:45 AM, police apprehended Saudagar Singh and produced him before court. He has been remanded to judicial custody while further legal proceedings are underway.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation will continue to ensure justice for the victim and to verify whether any other individuals were involved in concealing the crime.
The arrest has sparked discussions on the need for stronger awareness and vigilance against crimes targeting minors, especially in rural areas.
