The Cyber Crime Police have arrested two persons, including a lawyer and an engineer, for allegedly duping a man of Rs 2.7 lakh by promising to settle his pending traffic challans through a fake online service.
The accused were identified as Raja Das, a lawyer from Bhadrak, and Rajat Kumar Lenka, an engineer. According to police, the victim stumbled upon a Facebook‑linked website named “All India RTO Challan” while searching for traffic challan information. Believing their claims, he transferred over ₹2 lakh, only to later realise he had been cheated.
During the investigation, police seized 61 fake traffic challans, multiple mobile phones, a laptop, and 11 ATM cards from the duo. Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace the extent of the fraud and possible involvement of others.
Officials cautioned citizens against relying on unauthorised websites for challan settlement and urged them to use only official government portals.
