A woman gold trader was brutally attacked and robbed of Rs 36 lakh in cash by a gang of six armed miscreants in Kataka city late Sunday night.
The incident occurred between 10 pm and 10.30 pm on the Taladanda Canal bridge when trader Pinky Gupta, accompanied by a jewellery shop employee, was travelling on a scooter to OMP Square bus stop. She was scheduled to board a bus to Kolkata to purchase gold ornaments.
According to the complaint, the gang intercepted their scooter and launched a sudden assault. When Gupta resisted, the miscreants threatened her with sharp weapons and struck her with an iron rod before snatching the bag containing Rs 36 lakh. The accused fled on motorcycles.
Police rescued the injured trader and shifted her to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Her family lodged a complaint at Madhupatna police station. A police team recorded her statement and initiated an investigation. Efforts are underway to trace and nab the culprits.
