A woman who attempted self‑immolation in Brahmapur has died after four days of treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, police confirmed on Sunday.
The victim, a resident of Basudev Nagar under Nimakhandi police limits, had set herself ablaze after accusing her father of sexual harassment. She was rushed to Bhubaneswar in critical condition but succumbed to severe burn injuries despite intensive care.
Police said the woman named her father in her dying declaration. Acting on the statement, investigators arrested him and initiated legal proceedings. A mobile phone was also seized as part of the probe, with authorities examining evidence of prolonged abuse.
