Odia migrant worker trapped in Goa

A distressing case of forced confinement has emerged from Goa involving an Odia migrant worker.

Rinku Bag, 25, from Jaladihi village under Kolabira police limits in Jharsuguda district, remains trapped in Goa after being allegedly held illegally by his employers.

His father, Madhusudan Bag, wrote to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi seeking immediate intervention. He pleaded for his son’s safe rescue and return to Odisha. According to the letter, Rinku travelled to Goa nearly two years ago with four other youths from his village after being lured by a middleman from Sundargarh district. They joined a fishing company near Vasco-da-Gama in Zuari, run by individuals identified as Bindha and Welcome.

While the other youths returned home after a year, Rinku never came back. Family members alleged that the employers refused to release him, withheld his rightful wages, and kept him under constant watch. They claimed that whenever they tried to contact the employers, they faced abuse and threats. The family fears Rinku is suffering severe mental and physical torture.

The father’s letter urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene and coordinate with Goa Police to secure Rinku’s release. Relatives expressed deep concern, saying the family has collapsed under the weight of this ordeal. They demanded swift government action to end Rinku’s suffering and bring him home.
