Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra reviewed drinking water supply arrangements in Puri on Monday ahead of the world-famous Rath Yatra.
He conducted a field inspection of the ongoing 42 MLD Water Treatment Plant and directed officials to expedite work while maintaining strict quality standards.
During the review meeting, WATCO Managing Director Debabrata Mohanty and senior officials briefed the Minister on special measures for uninterrupted water supply during the festival. Dr Mahapatra stressed that the population of Puri multiplies during Rath Yatra, making safe drinking water a top priority.
He inspected major components of the treatment plant, including clarifiers, filtration units, and equipment installation. He instructed agencies to complete the project within the stipulated timeline and warned that negligence would be taken seriously.
Officials confirmed round-the-clock water supply arrangements around Shree Jagannath Temple, pilgrim accommodations, temporary camps, and key city locations. Standby pumps, power backup systems, and emergency response mechanisms have been readied.
WATCO has deployed mobile tankers, temporary distribution points, and emergency teams to address any disruption. A dedicated control room will operate 24×7 throughout the festival to ensure prompt response.
Dr Mahapatra reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to efficient civic services during Rath Yatra, stating that the Housing and Urban Development Department and WATCO are fully prepared to provide uninterrupted access to clean drinking water for devotees and residents.
