US President Donald Trump has renewed his offer to help broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine after holding separate phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey.
The discussions focused on the ongoing conflict, diplomatic efforts to end the war and the role the United States could play in reviving peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
Trump Reaffirms Support for Peace Talks
According to the Kremlin, Trump reiterated his willingness to help end the conflict during a 90-minute phone call with Putin.
Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine in the context of Trump’s planned participation in the NATO summit scheduled for July 7–8 in Turkey.
Trump expressed support for finding a swift diplomatic solution and said the United States remains ready to assist efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
Putin Shares Russia’s Position
During the conversation, Putin congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of US Independence before updating him on recent battlefield developments.
According to the Kremlin, Putin said Russia continues to prefer a political and diplomatic resolution while maintaining what Moscow describes as its core national interests.
The Russian president also invited Trump to visit Moscow in the future.
Zelensky Calls Conversation ‘Very Good’
Following his discussion with Putin, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky later described the conversation as “very good” in a post on Telegram, saying the two leaders reviewed the current military situation and ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
The Ukrainian president said there is a genuine opportunity to move toward ending the war and emphasized that continued US engagement could play an important role in future negotiations.
Both leaders also agreed to continue discussions during the upcoming NATO summit.
US Envoys to Continue Diplomatic Outreach
According to the Kremlin, Trump said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will continue diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv.
The officials remain available to travel to Russia if further negotiations require direct engagement.
The renewed diplomatic initiative comes as earlier US-led mediation efforts have slowed, with international attention recently shifting toward tensions involving Iran.
NATO Summit Expected to Focus on Ukraine
The phone calls come just days before NATO leaders gather in Turkey, where support for Ukraine is expected to dominate the agenda.
