Zverev’s victory marked his 81st ATP Masters 1000 win since the start of 2020, surpassing Stefanos Tsitsipas for the most wins in this category during that period. Despite a rocky start where he trailed 1-4 in the first set, Zverev rallied to take control, winning eight of the next nine games and ultimately roaring to victory with a phenomenal performance.
Commenting on his match, Zverev praised Thompson’s efforts, acknowledging the challenges posed by the Australian. “Jordan made it difficult for me for sure. I’m happy with my level from 1-4 onwards,” said Zverev. His ability to adapt and dominate was a testament to his prowess as he inched closer to his quest for a first Miami Open title.
Zverev’s triumph in Miami also highlighted his exceptional serving stats, with an impressive 77% winning percentage on his second serve, which was pivotal in his success. Up next, Zverev will face either Arthur Fils or Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round, aiming to build on his stellar form.
