The elegant halls of Geet Govind Sadan came alive with pride and purpose on Monday as Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati showered glowing praise on the Banki Pragati Parishad for its remarkable contributions to social harmony, cultural preservation, and community development.

Banki Pragati Parishad Odisha Addressing the organisation’s 6th Annual Conference, the Governor described the gathering as “a meaningful platform that strengthens social goodwill and collective progress.” He said the Parishad has emerged as a respected force that enriches community life through thoughtful social and cultural programmes and constructive grassroots initiatives.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, organisations like the Banki Pragati Parishad play a vital role in reinforcing family values, encouraging creativity, and safeguarding our rich cultural traditions,” the Governor observed. He specially commended the Parishad for successfully connecting different generations and proudly promoting Banki’s unique heritage.

Highlighting Banki’s glorious past, Governor Kambhampati spoke fondly of the inspiring legacy of Rani Sukadei and the ecological treasure that is Ansupa Lake — Odisha’s largest natural freshwater lake. He underlined the lake’s immense potential for responsible tourism and environmental conservation, calling it a precious asset for the region.

The Governor also appreciated the Parishad’s consistent efforts to promote Odia classical traditions, folk arts, literature, and other cultural treasures, ensuring they are passed on vibrantly to future generations. He noted that the organisation is effectively acting as a bridge between the people and the government by creating awareness about developmental programmes.

Adding lustre to the occasion, the prestigious “Banki Ratna” honour was conferred upon noted environmentalist Sarat Chandra Tripathy and senior artist Mahendra Prasad Mahapatra. Sunil Kumar Das, who has achieved distinction in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), received the “Medha Samman”.

The event witnessed the release of the Parishad’s souvenir ‘Renuka’ along with two significant books — ‘Veera Rani Sukadei’ and ‘Mundideul’.

Banki MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy, eminent litterateur Shri Jitendra Narayan Das (Das Benhur), senior member Subhranshu Mohan Padhi, and General Secretary Nimai Charan Das addressed the gathering. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Parishad President Neel Mohan Tripathy.

The 6th Annual Conference of the Banki Pragati Parishad once again proved that when tradition meets purposeful action, it creates lasting impact — not just for Banki, but for the cultural soul of Odisha
