Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his three-day visit to Seychelles on Monday, marking a milestone in India-Seychelles relations.
He held extensive talks with President Patrick Herminie to deepen cooperation and advance a shared vision for a secure and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
Modi attended Seychelles’ National Day celebrations as Guest of Honour, commemorating the island nation’s 50 years of independence. He described the visit as “filled with substantive outcomes” that will boost the India-Seychelles friendship.
The two nations announced 19 outcomes spanning defence, maritime security, digital payments, space, healthcare, agriculture, and education. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit reinforced both countries’ commitment to strengthening regional stability and sustainable development.
Modi addressed the Seychelles National Assembly, urging global action on climate change guided by fairness and equity. President Herminie conferred the title Guardian of the Blue Horizon on Modi for his leadership in environmental sustainability and advocacy for developing nations.
The prime minister emphasised that the next fifty years of India-Seychelles ties will focus on innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity. His departure was marked by a warm farewell from Vice-President Sebastien Pillay and members of the Indian diaspora.
