In a significant update for lakhs of devotees, the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration in Puri has announced a temporary suspension of public darshan to facilitate special rituals and elaborate preparations for the upcoming Snanajatra.

According to the official information released by the temple administration, the Snanajatra of Mahaprabhu will be observed on Monday, 29 June 2026, which falls on Jyeshtha Shukla Purnima.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the sacred bathing ceremony and advance arrangements at the Shree Mandira, public darshan will remain suspended from 10:30 PM on Saturday, 27 June 2026, until approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

Snanajatra is one of the most important and spiritually significant events in the Jagannath temple calendar. During this grand ritual, the sibling deities — Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra — are ceremonially bathed with 108 pots of sacred water on the Snanabedi.

This festival holds deep religious importance as it is believed to mark the “birthday” of Lord Jagannath and serves as the spiritual precursor to the world-famous Rath Yatra scheduled for mid-July. Following the Snanajatra, the deities enter a 15-day period of seclusion called Anasara, during which they are offered special care and simple offerings.

The temporary closure of darshan is a standard and necessary measure taken by the temple administration to maintain sanctity and ensure all rituals are performed without any hindrance. Devotees are requested to cooperate with the arrangements and plan their visits accordingly.

Darshan is expected to resume in the afternoon of Sunday, 28 June, giving pilgrims an opportunity to have a glimpse of the Lord before the main festival day.

The administration has urged everyone to maintain peace and extend their support for the successful observance of this auspicious occasion.
