The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy rainfall across Odisha till June 30 as the southwest monsoon remains active.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several districts.
IMD scientists confirmed that monsoon currents are advancing steadily toward northern India, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. This progress will bring relief from heat in those regions while Odisha continues to experience widespread showers.
Between June 27 and June 29, northeastern states and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, and Meghalaya may face intense showers, with alerts issued until July 1.
In Odisha, districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are expected to receive significant rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. IMD scientist Umashankar Das stated that the state will continue to experience active monsoon conditions, with lightning and gusty winds adding to the weather hazards.
Farmers, fishermen, and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious and take preventive measures. Authorities urged people to avoid open fields during lightning activity and ensure safety during heavy rain spells.
