Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the 14th Multi-Agency Maritime Security Group (Policy) meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.

He said the sea represents opportunity, prosperity, and international cooperation, not just a geographical boundary.

Majhi described the 21st century as the Indo-Pacific century and highlighted India’s emergence as a major maritime power. He noted that hosting the national-level meeting outside Delhi for the first time reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of cooperative federalism.

The Chief Minister emphasised that ports, fisheries, and the blue economy are vital national assets. He said protecting these resources ensures both national security and the welfare of millions of coastal residents. He stressed the need for advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, and modern monitoring networks to strengthen maritime safety.

Majhi also mentioned Odisha’s rich maritime history, recalling ancient Kalinga’s trade links with Southeast Asia. He said Odisha continues to play a key role in India’s maritime growth, with projects such as a deep-sea port in Ganjam and a shipbuilding cluster near Paradip.

National Maritime Security Coordinator Vice Admiral (Retd.) Biswajit Dasgupta said developing a unified model for maritime security requires strategic planning and cooperation. Chief Secretary Anu Garg urged a focus on island security and development.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials of coastal states, the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Odisha Police, and other agencies. DGP Y.B. Khurania delivered the welcome address.
