The 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship 2026 begins today at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
The competition will continue until June 28 with 637 athletes from 26 states participating.
Athletics Federation of India President Adille Sumariwalla announced the details during a press conference. Haryana fields the largest contingent, while Odisha contributes 28 athletes. Among them, Animesh Kujur and Shrabani Nanda will compete, raising hopes for multiple medals. Officials expect at least five to six athletes from Odisha to secure gold medals.
Organisers confirmed that all athletics events except the marathon will be held. Entry fees for each athlete have been capped at Rs 500. The championship promises intense competition as athletes aim to qualify for upcoming international events.
The Kalinga Stadium, known for hosting major national and international sports events, has been fully prepared for the championship. Odisha’s participation highlights the state’s growing presence in athletics, with local athletes determined to make a mark on the national stage.
The championship not only showcases India’s top talent but also strengthens Bhubaneswar’s reputation as a hub for athletics. With 637 athletes competing, the event sets the stage for thrilling performances and memorable victories.
