In a significant push towards error-free electoral rolls, Gyanesh Bharti, Senior Deputy Chief Election Commissioner of India, visited Ganjam district today as part of his two-day Odisha tour.
He conducted a detailed review of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at the Circuit House in Gopalpur.
District Collector and District Election Officer V. Kirtivasan presented a comprehensive briefing on the progress of Enumeration Form distribution, digitisation, and other SIR-related activities. Ganjam, one of Odisha’s most populous districts, has emerged as a frontrunner in the state, with impressive ground-level execution.
Remarkable Progress in Ganjam
The district has deployed 3,124 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 311 BLO Supervisors across 13 Assembly constituencies, supported by 13 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 79 Assistant EROs.
- Form Distribution: 99.86% of forms have been distributed to 2,999,782 voters. Voters retain one copy while submitting the filled and signed second copy to BLOs.
- Digitisation: 60.44% of forms digitised so far (18,13,215 forms), with 11,46,609 forms already verified by BLOs.
Bharti appreciated the dedication and hard work of BLOs and field staff, noting that Ganjam’s performance stands out despite its large voter base. He urged officials to complete all SIR processes well before the deadline.
State-wide Snapshot
As of this evening, Odisha has achieved 99.29% form distribution (3,31,60,875 voters) and 53.19% digitization (1,77,65,182 voters). Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan has directed all districts to complete the entire SIR exercise by June 23–24, ahead of the June 28 timeline.
After the review meeting, Bharti and senior Election Commission officials interacted directly with BLOs and supervisors in Gopalpur to understand field-level challenges and successes. The team expressed satisfaction with Ganjam’s proactive approach.
Principal Secretary S.B. Joshi, Deputy Secretary Abhinav Agrawal, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sushant Kumar Mishra, and senior district administration officers attended the meeting.
