A shocking incident has stirred concern in Bhubaneswar after the body of a young man was discovered near a canal along the Nakhra-Sundarpur main road on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Prabhat Behera, a resident of Anantpur village.

Police and forensic experts rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. Preliminary findings revealed a scooter, beer bottles, a plastic pipe, and a rope near the body. Visible injury marks on the victim’s head and mouth have intensified suspicions surrounding the circumstances of his death.

Family Suspects Foul Play

Family members have alleged that Prabhat was the victim of a planned murder. According to them, he was called out of his house late on Tuesday night by a local sand trader identified as Tennis Patra.

Prabhat’s mother said she was initially hesitant to allow her son to leave home at such a late hour. She reportedly spoke with the caller before Prabhat eventually left. When he failed to return, family members tried contacting both Prabhat and Tennis Patra but were unable to reach either of them.

Relatives claim that more than one person may have been involved in the incident and have urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

Road Blockade Sparks Tension

Following the recovery of the body, tension escalated in the area as family members and local residents blocked the Nakhra-Niali road, demanding immediate action against those responsible.

Protesters insisted that all suspects be arrested before the body is sent for post-mortem examination. The demonstration temporarily disrupted traffic as police officers attempted to restore normalcy and engage with the aggrieved family.

Main Suspect Detained for Questioning

Police have detained Tennis Patra and are currently questioning him in connection with the case. Authorities have also launched a search operation to identify and locate any other individuals who may have been involved.

Speaking to reporters, Prabhat’s brother, Biranchi Behera, alleged that there had been previous disputes between the deceased and the detained individual.

“He called my brother from home late at night. He should be questioned thoroughly so the truth comes out. We were living peacefully and had no issues with anyone else,” he said.

Police and Forensic Teams Continue Investigation

Investigators from the police and forensic science laboratory (FSL) are examining evidence collected from the scene. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death and are awaiting forensic reports and the results of further questioning.

Authorities have assured that all angles will be investigated to determine what led to the tragic death of the young man.

As the investigation progresses, residents and family members continue to seek answers and justice in a case that has drawn widespread attention across the region.
