The western Odisha city of Sambalpur is all set to host the iconic Sital Sasthi Festival 2026 from June 14, bringing together more than 7,500 artistes from across Odisha and several Indian states for one of the region’s largest cultural and religious celebrations.

The annual festival, which commemorates the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is known for its vibrant processions, traditional rituals, folk performances, and elaborate thematic tableaux that attract thousands of devotees and visitors every year.

Week-Long Celebrations Begin on June 14

The festivities will commence with the traditional Patrapendi ritual on June 14. The celestial wedding ceremony of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati will take place on the night of June 18.

Following the sacred marriage ritual, the traditional homecoming procession of the divine couple will begin on June 19 and conclude on the evening of June 20, marking the culmination of the grand celebrations.

Nandapada Committee Allocates ₹90 Lakh Budget

The Nandapada Sital Sasthi Committee, regarded as the oldest and largest organising body, has earmarked a budget of ₹90 lakh for this year’s festival.

Approximately 2,000 artistes will participate in its procession, showcasing Odisha’s rich cultural traditions through performances such as Dulduli, Samprada, and Ghanta.

The committee has also invited cultural troupes from Kerala, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and West Bengal. Major attractions include:

  • Maha Mangal Aarti
  • Spectacular fireworks display
  • Cultural performances
  • Environmental awareness-themed tableaux

Jhaduapada Committee to Feature 2,700 Artistes

The Jhaduapada Sital Sasthi Committee has allocated a budget of ₹75–80 lakh and expects participation from nearly 2,700 artistes.

Artists from Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh will take part in the celebrations. Renowned cultural groups, including the Baba Bateswar Kirtan Samiti from Bhopal, are expected to perform.

Key highlights of the Jhaduapada procession include:

  • Mahakal-themed decorative floats
  • Nrusingha tableaux
  • Mythological depictions
  • Giant Putana Badh presentation

Modipada Committee Promotes Culture and Environmental Awareness

The Modipada Sital Sasthi Committee has set aside ₹50 lakh for the festival and will feature more than 2,800 artistes.

The procession will showcase a variety of traditional folk and tribal performances, including:

  • Ghanta dance
  • Dulduli
  • Ghumura
  • Ranapa
  • Tribal cultural dances

The committee will also promote environmental conservation through its “Save Tree” theme. Additional attractions include tableaux depicting Lord Jagannath, Maa Samaleswari, and various episodes from Hindu mythology.

Festival Budget Rises to ₹2.2 Crore

The scale of the Sital Sasthi Festival continues to expand each year. The combined budget of the three major organising committees has increased from approximately ₹1.7 crore in 2025 to nearly ₹2.2 crore in 2026, reflecting the festival’s growing popularity and cultural significance.

The increase in funding has enabled organisers to bring in more artistes, larger processions, and enhanced cultural presentations.

Odisha Government Extends Financial Support

To support the preservation and promotion of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, the Odisha government has sanctioned financial assistance of ₹1.08 crore for the festival.

The grant will be distributed among 21 Sital Sasthi committees across the region, helping ensure the smooth conduct of rituals, cultural programmes, and community celebrations.

Cultural Heritage on Grand Display

Sital Sasthi remains one of Odisha’s most celebrated cultural and religious festivals, blending spirituality, folk traditions, community participation, and artistic excellence. With thousands of performers, elaborate processions, and strong government support, the 2026 edition is expected to be one of the grandest celebrations in recent years.
