The official vehicle of Daspalla Block Development Officer (BDO) Sarat Chandra Mallik came under attack on Friday when unidentified miscreants pelted stones at it near Nachhipur village in Nayagarh district.
The incident occurred as the officer was returning after attending official programmes in the Nachhipur Panchayat.
Reports said two men on a motorcycle suddenly hurled stones at the car, shattering its front windshield. One stone struck the BDO’s leg after breaking through the glass, while the driver sustained injuries. Both managed to avoid major harm as the driver stopped the vehicle quickly, preventing a possible accident.
Mallik had earlier visited the Panchayat to monitor Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work and distributed government assistance to a fire victim along with the local Sarpanch. The attack took place during his return journey.
The assailants fled immediately after pelting stones. Following the incident, Mallik lodged a complaint at Daspalla Police Station. Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the attackers. Authorities said the motive behind the assault remains unclear.
