Police in Bhubaneswar arrested two men for sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman inside a beauty parlour at Jagamara under Khandagiri police limits.
The accused, identified as Rabindra Mohanty (50), the parlour owner from Kolathia, and Santosh Kumar Barik (52), an employee from Ragadipada in Cuttack district, allegedly assaulted the woman after promising her a job.
The victim, trained in beauty and cosmetology, had been searching for employment. An acquaintance informed her about a vacancy at the parlour. Trusting the owner’s assurances of a lucrative salary, she visited the establishment a few days ago. She later alleged that Mohanty and Barik assaulted her inside the premises.
Following the incident, the woman lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station on Sunday night. Police registered a case under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.
A team, assisted by forensic experts, examined the parlour, collected evidence, and reviewed CCTV footage. Investigators seized objectionable materials from the premises, which has since been sealed.
On Tuesday, police arrested the accused duo and produced them before the court. Their bail pleas were rejected, and they were remanded to judicial custody.
