A major tragedy unfolded in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district after a massive fire broke out inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital early Thursday morning. Officials have confirmed the deaths of three people, while concerns remain that the final toll could rise as rescue and verification efforts continue.

The incident occurred at Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur, triggering panic among patients, attendants and medical staff.

According to local authorities, the blaze erupted inside the ICU section of the hospital, one of the most critical areas where seriously ill patients were undergoing treatment.

Emergency response teams and firefighters rushed to the scene shortly after receiving information about the fire. After several hours of operation, firefighters managed to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the building.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen confirmed that three people have lost their lives in the incident.

Speaking to reporters, the district administration stated that rescue operations were launched immediately after the fire was reported.

“Several lives were affected after a massive fire broke out in the ICU of Prasad Hospital. Firefighting teams responded quickly and have successfully controlled the blaze. Reports received so far indicate three fatalities,” the district magistrate said.

Authorities are still verifying information from the hospital and rescue teams.

Officials said emergency teams evacuated patients from affected areas and shifted them to safer locations. Medical assistance has been arranged for those impacted by the incident.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A detailed investigation has been initiated to examine possible safety lapses and assess compliance with fire safety regulations.

The Muzaffarpur hospital fire comes just a day after another major fire tragedy in the national capital.

On Wednesday, a massive blaze at a hotel building in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar claimed 21 lives. According to police, 18 of the victims were foreign nationals.

The back-to-back fire incidents have intensified concerns about emergency preparedness and fire safety compliance in public buildings across India.
