Odisha 755 medical posts

In a significant step towards transforming Odisha’s healthcare landscape, the state government has sanctioned 755 new posts in government medical colleges and associated hospitals.

This landmark decision aims to address faculty shortages, enhance the quality of medical education, and ensure faster, higher-quality treatment for patients across the state.

The newly approved positions include:

  • 7 Professors
  • 35 Associate Professors
  • 50 Assistant Professors
  • 29 Tutors
  • 248 Senior Residents
  • 190 Junior Residents (MBBS)
  • 112 Casualty Medical Officers (CMOs)
  • 84 Blood Bank Officers (BBOs)

Once filled, these positions will significantly improve the teacher-student ratio and doctor-patient ratio in medical institutions, enabling better clinical training and round-the-clock patient care, especially in emergency and critical departments.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling welcomed the decision, stating that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the government has made health sector development a top priority. “This move will strengthen the foundation of medical education while ensuring that people receive advanced and timely healthcare services,” he said.

The approval comes at a crucial time as the state has recently expanded medical education infrastructure. Three new medical colleges have added 250 MBBS seats, while postgraduate (PG) seats have increased to 68. These expansions created an urgent need for more faculty and resident doctors — a gap this fresh recruitment drive is set to fill.
