The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education under the School and Mass Education Department has launched a comprehensive induction training programme for newly appointed Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) serving in Government Higher Secondary Schools and Government Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools across Odisha.

The orientation workshop, being conducted at IMAGE, Siripur in Bhubaneswar, has brought together around 120 newly recruited PGT teachers for professional development and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the quality of higher secondary education in the state.

Senior Officials Highlight Teachers’ Role in Nation Building

The inaugural session was attended by senior education officials, including Director of Teacher Education and SCERT (TE&SCERT) Smt. Madhusmita Sahoo, Director of Higher Secondary Education Smt. Niyati Pattnaik, Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali, Deputy Director Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi, and Deputy Director Shri Jitendra Kumar Nayak.

Addressing the participants, Smt. Madhusmita Sahoo emphasized the importance of developing problem-solving abilities among students and encouraged teachers to provide effective academic and personal guidance.

She highlighted the critical role teachers play in shaping responsible citizens and stressed the need to strengthen teacher-student relationships. Describing higher secondary education as a crucial bridge between school and higher education, she urged educators to pay special attention to students during this important stage of learning.

Focus on Lifelong Learning and Professional Growth

Director of Higher Secondary Education Smt. Niyati Pattnaik encouraged the newly appointed teachers to embrace lifelong learning and continuously upgrade their knowledge and teaching skills.

She noted that effective teaching requires constant learning and adaptation to changing educational needs. Expressing confidence in the programme, she said the induction training would help teachers improve classroom practices and enhance student learning outcomes.

Earlier, Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali delivered the welcome address and explained the objectives and scope of the induction programme. Deputy Director Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the event, while Deputy Director Shri Jitendra Kumar Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.

Training to be Conducted in Two Phases

The induction programme is being conducted in two phases to ensure comprehensive training for all newly appointed teachers.

  • Phase I: June 8 to June 12, 2026
  • Phase II: June 16 to June 20, 2026

During the first phase, 120 PGT teachers from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Commerce disciplines are participating in the workshop.

Key Topics Covered During the Workshop

The training programme covers a wide range of academic, administrative, and professional development topics, including:

  • National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education
  • Odisha Education Rules
  • SAMS and Shikshajyoti portal operations
  • POSH Act awareness
  • Scholarship schemes
  • Administrative responsibilities of teachers
  • Examination and evaluation systems
  • Career guidance and counselling for students

Strengthening Odisha’s Higher Secondary Education System

Officials stated that the induction training programme has been designed to strengthen the professional competencies of newly appointed teachers and prepare them to contribute effectively to Odisha’s higher secondary education sector.

By equipping educators with modern teaching practices, technological skills, and policy awareness, the initiative aims to improve classroom effectiveness, student engagement, and overall educational outcomes across the state.

The programme reflects the Odisha government’s continued commitment to enhancing teacher quality and implementing reforms aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.
