Odisha intensified preparations for the world‑famous Rath Yatra as Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee reviewed readiness at the Puri Circuit House on Saturday.
She directed officials to complete all road repairs, clean drains, enhance sanitation, and ensure an uninterrupted water supply before the festival. Padhee instructed the creation of temporary parking zones and 24‑hour public toilet facilities to serve millions of pilgrims.
She ordered strict enforcement against garbage dumping and construction debris on public roads. Authorities will impose heavy penalties on violators to maintain civic discipline.
The Housing and Urban Development Department prepared a joint action plan with local agencies for smooth execution. Padhee asked Puri Collector Dibyajyoti Parida to hold weekly reviews and monitor progress closely.
Officials prioritised stormwater management and drainage upgrades along the Grand Road (Badadanda) since the Rath Yatra coincides with the monsoon. Puri Municipal Commissioner Sneha Agrawal confirmed that all open drains along the route will be covered with concrete slabs by June 30.
Citywide sanitation drives now run twice daily, supported by awareness campaigns urging citizens to keep Puri clean. Anti‑encroachment operations and stray‑cattle relocation are also underway.
The administration decided not to permit cooked‑food distribution on Badadanda during Rath Yatra 2026 to safeguard public health.
After the meeting, Padhee inspected key project sites with senior officials, including SP Prateek Singh and members of the Shrimandir Managing Committee.
