In a firm push to strengthen the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) – known as Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana in Odisha – Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling held a comprehensive review meeting with representatives of empanelled private hospitals today at Lok Seva Bhawan.

Dr Mahaling issued clear directives: “Any medical examination conducted up to three days before a patient’s admission under the scheme must be reflected on the Ayushman Card. Tests done within this window will be covered under the Ayushman package. Failure to comply with guidelines will invite strict action against the concerned hospital.”

The Minister stressed that every beneficiary deserves respectful treatment and high-quality hospitality. “A large percentage of patients visiting hospitals are Ayushman cardholders. Hospitals must set up dedicated help desks to make their experience seamless,” he said. He added that providing care in a supportive environment would not only benefit patients but also enhance the reputation of the hospitals.

Detailed discussions were held on ensuring timely, quality, and completely cashless treatment for all eligible beneficiaries under the scheme.

Highlighting the scheme’s impact, Dr Mahaling noted that Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY has already provided relief to crores of people across Odisha. “The success of this flagship programme depends heavily on the active cooperation of private hospitals. Every beneficiary must receive dignified and excellent healthcare services,” he urged.

Representatives from private hospitals shared their on-ground experiences, challenges, and constructive suggestions. The government assured that all valid points raised would be examined and addressed promptly.

The meeting was attended by the Health Secretary and Commissioner Ashwaty S., National Health Mission (NHM) Managing Director Dr Brunda D., senior department officials, and representatives from various empanelled private hospitals across the state.
