Veteran Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Dastidar resigned from all organisational posts in the party, hours after attending a key administrative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Dastidar, a four-time MP from Barasat and long considered a close aide of Mamata Banerjee, submitted her resignation letter expressing sadness and concern. She stepped down as Chairperson of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress and relinquished all other organisational responsibilities.

In her letter, she criticised the party’s leadership for failing to address indecent behaviour by fellow MP Kalyan Banerjee, who was reinstated as chief whip in Lok Sabha after TMC’s electoral setback. Dastidar wrote that it was not meaningful to hold a position where cooperation and sympathy from senior leadership could not be obtained.

Her resignation came days after she quit as Barasat district president, signalling growing discontent within the party. The development is seen as a major setback for TMC, especially in North 24 Parganas, once considered a stronghold under her organisational grip.

Dastidar’s exit adds to the turmoil facing Trinamool Congress after its poll rout. Known for her strong parliamentary presence, she often attacked the BJP-led central government and maintained close ties with party cadres. Her decision to step down from all posts has stirred speculation about her future political course, especially after her meeting with Suvendu Adhikari.
