A violent nor’wester storm struck Deogarh district on Monday afternoon, causing widespread damage to homes, farms, and public infrastructure across multiple blocks.

The storm swept through Tileibani, Reamal, and Barkote blocks between 4 pm and 5 pm, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

Roofs of several houses in Talabahali village under Tileibani block flew off, leaving families homeless. In Kardapal village, tin sheets from a hockey grassroots center struck a worker, Nishikant Pradhan, causing severe shoulder injuries.

In Mardang village under Dholpada panchayat, poultry farms and houses suffered extensive damage. Families, including those of Rangalata Sahu, Phanindra Das, Bharat Adabar, and others, reported collapsed asbestos roofs. Large trees and electric poles fell across roads, blocking traffic for hours. Locals used JCB machines to clear debris, but the electricity supply remained disrupted due to broken wires.

Barkote block also faced destruction. A massive mango tree fell at Dantaribahal market, blocking the Dantaribahal–Tusula road and halting vehicle movement. Villages like Kusumkata, Gayarmunda, and Badabahali reported damaged houses and power outages. In the Reamal block, Nabadihi and Bailedihi villages saw roofs of more than 15 houses blown away.

Residents across affected areas struggled with the loss of shelter and property. The storm left many families displaced, forcing them to seek temporary arrangements. The district administration and revenue department began assessing damages. Locals demanded immediate compensation and financial aid for rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods.
