Kanpur police arrested two men for illegally transporting cattle to Kolkata and rescued twelve cows from a forest near Gangagana village under Kanpur police limits in Narasinghpur.
Acting on a tip‑off, a police team led by Inspector Sushil Nayak raided the area and seized a blue Tata Ace vehicle used for the transport.
Police identified the accused as Naresh Kumar Patra of Paik Barabati and Ramesh Kumar Lenka of Nuapatana village in Narasinghpur. Officers said the duo had been moving cattle from Narasinghpur toward Kolkata for illegal trade.
The team registered a case under Kanpur police station case number 74/26 and detained both suspects for questioning. Officials confirmed that the rescued cattle were handed over to local authorities for safe shelter.
Inspector Nayak said the operation followed reports of frequent illegal cattle movement through forest routes. He added that the department would intensify surveillance to curb such activities.
