In a significant push to modernise Odisha’s rich handloom heritage, a high-level meeting chaired by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of the Works Department, was held today to finalise plans for establishing Handloom Hubs and Parks in Cuttack, Bargarh, and Jajpur districts.
The meeting focused on creating world-class infrastructure that blends traditional weaving skills with advanced technology, aiming to generate hundreds of jobs and open new markets for local artisans.
In Cuttack district, officials discussed setting up an AI and Blockchain-supported Handloom Hub at Abhimanpur on 2.77 acres at an estimated cost of ₹13.51 crore. The proposed hub will house an administrative office, guest house, display shop, dedicated weaving centre, exhibition zone with sales stalls, and a warehouse. Once operational, it is expected to give a fresh boost to handloom, handicraft, and terracotta work in the region while creating substantial local employment.
In Bargarh, a ₹20 crore Handloom and Apparel Park has been proposed on 9.35 acres at Govindpur mauja. This facility will serve as a major hub for western Odisha, benefiting weavers from Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Balangir districts. Equipped with long warping, winding, weaving units and high-end sewing machines, the park will enable more than 300 artisans to produce a wide range of quality garments, significantly enhancing production capacity and market reach.
