In a heart-wrenching incident that has left an entire village in mourning, a crumbling old wall suddenly collapsed on a father and his two young sons in Jadapara Colony under Raighar block of Nabarangpur district.
The tragedy claimed the life of three-year-old Biju Raut on the spot, while his father Ramadev Rout and five-year-old brother Bijay Rout sustained serious injuries.
According to locals, Ramadev and his two children were peacefully sitting at the base of a tamarind tree near their home when the adjacent dilapidated wall gave way without warning.
The heavy debris crashed down on the trio, instantly pinning little Biju beneath it. Despite desperate rescue efforts by villagers, the toddler could not be saved and died due to suffocation and severe trauma.
The father and elder son were pulled out from under the rubble by quick-thinking neighbours and rushed to a local medical facility. After initial treatment, both were referred to Umerkote for advanced care. As of now, their condition remains critical.
Kundei police promptly reached the spot, registered a case of unnatural death, and initiated an investigation. The body of the child was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
