Burla police intercepted a Swift car during vehicle checking near Planetarium Chhak and engaged in a dramatic chase that ended with gunfire and arrests.
On May 17, 2026, around 5:00 AM, police signalled a Swift car coming from the Sambalpur University side to stop. The driver fled towards Right Dyke Road. Police chased and intercepted the vehicle near Fishery Chhak. One of the accused jumped out and fired three rounds at the police team. Officers responded with two controlled rounds, injuring the accused on his right leg.
The injured man was identified as notorious criminal Manish Sahu, involved in more than 14 cases, including dacoity, robbery, Arms Act violations, and Corex-related offences. Police apprehended three associates travelling with him.
Authorities seized one pistol with one live round, three empty cartridges, a Swift car, five mobile phones, and ten cartons of Corex. Police shifted the injured accused to VIMSAR, Burla, for treatment.
Legal action under the NDPS Act and other relevant laws has been initiated. Investigation continues against the accused group.
