In a beautiful blend of tradition and craftsmanship, the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri is receiving a stunning upgrade.
A brand-new brass-sheathed wooden door, crafted with devotion and precision, is being installed today at the temple’s northern gate—popularly known as Hasti Dwar—inside the Meghanad Pacheri enclosure.
The ornate door, made from Burmese teak and adorned with nearly 3 quintals of shining brass, replaces the old one in a three-day installation process that began this evening. Temple officials confirmed the work will be completed with utmost care to preserve the sanctity of the sacred space.
The magnificent new door was generously donated by a devout Odia philanthropist and meticulously handcrafted over three months in Tarapur Barati village near Cuttack. Master craftsman Pramod Ojha, along with his dedicated team, poured their skill into every detail.
Measuring 13 feet 6 inches in length with a 42-inch-wide frame (rear panel: 13 feet 10 inches long and 48 inches wide), the door is already being hailed for its breathtaking beauty and artistic excellence.
The northern gate holds special significance as one of the four main entrances to the temple. Devotees and priests regularly use it for various rituals and daily services, making this enhancement a moment of pride for the entire Jagannath culture.
