Tamil Nadu Government Formation Suspense Continues as VCK Yet to Declare Support for TVK

Political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu continues as Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is yet to officially announce whether it will support Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in forming the next government.

The actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay-led TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 108 seats. However, the party still remains short of the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member Assembly.

Support From Congress and Left Parties

The TVK has already secured support from the Indian National Congress, which won five seats, along with the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), both of which secured two seats each.

Even with this backing, TVK still requires at least one additional legislator to cross the majority threshold.

Vijay Meets Governor for Third Consecutive Day

Vijay and senior TVK leaders met Rajendra Arlekar for the third consecutive day seeking an invitation to form the government.

However, the Governor’s office clarified that TVK has not yet demonstrated the required legislative majority needed to stake claim to power officially.

The continued delay has intensified political speculation across the state, with attention now firmly focused on the VCK’s final decision.

VCK Yet to Make Official Announcement

VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan stated that the party would announce its position after consulting its executive committee.

Earlier, CPI Tamil Nadu secretary M Veerapandian had indicated that VCK would likely align with the Left parties’ decision to support TVK. However, no formal confirmation has been issued by the party leadership.

Meanwhile, statements made by VCK legislator Vanni Arasu on social media sparked speculation that the party may seek a greater role in governance if it extends support to TVK.

Speculation Over Deputy CM and Ministerial Berths

Political observers believe VCK could negotiate for important positions, including the deputy chief minister’s post and ministerial representation in a possible TVK-led government.

However, VCK MP D Ravikumar dismissed media reports claiming that the party was demanding posts or bargaining for power-sharing arrangements. He urged the media not to circulate “misleading” reports aimed at damaging the party’s image.

VCK Says It Supports Democratic Governance

Addressing reporters, Vanni Arasu said the party would fully abide by the final decision taken by Thol Thirumavalavan.

He added that VCK believes Tamil Nadu should have a democratically elected government and criticised any possibility of Governor’s Rule in the state.

The prolonged uncertainty has kept political activity intense in Chennai, with party workers, media personnel and security forces gathering outside VCK headquarters awaiting the crucial announcement.
