The coin fell in favour of Royal Challengers Bengaluru once again, and captain Rajat Patidar had no hesitation. In front of a packed Ekana Cricket Stadium, RCB won the toss for Match No. 50 of TATA IPL 2026 and elected to **bowl first** against Lucknow Super Giants.
With the floodlights already on and a slow, black-soil pitch waiting, Patidar’s decision was crystal clear. Speaking to the broadcaster moments after the toss, the RCB skipper explained: “We will bowl first. It looks pretty hard on the hard surface but not sure… it’s a black soil pitch and the past 4-5 matches here have been low-scoring. We will try to get them early as possible.”
The move is textbook for Ekana. Pitch reports across the season have shown the surface gripping for spinners and offering cutters for pacers, while dew often makes the second innings easier for batters. By bowling first, RCB aim to put LSG under early pressure and then chase with the ball skidding on later.
RCB’s bowling attack looks menacing under lights. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the new ball, combined with the experience of Romario Shepherd and the spin of Krunal Pandya, could make life tough for LSG’s top order. Virat Kohli, fresh off another strong season, will be licking his lips at the prospect of a chase.
On the other side, Rishabh Pant’s LSG side features firepower with Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram, but they will have to bat first on a pitch that has rarely seen 200-plus totals this season. Pant, leading from the front as captain and wicketkeeper, will need his batters to find a way to rotate strike on the sluggish surface.
The stakes are high for both sides in the latter half of the league stage. A win here could significantly boost playoff chances, especially for RCB, who have looked like one of the most complete teams this season.
As the players walked out for the national anthem, the Lucknow crowd was electric – a sea of blue and red ready for another thriller. Will Patidar’s gamble pay off, or will Pant’s LSG find the boundaries on a tricky track?
The action is underway at the Ekana Stadium. Stay tuned – this is one toss decision that could define the night! 🔥
