The Odisha government has announced plans to establish an Ayurvedic Medical College in Mayurbhanj district, a significant step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the state.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling shared this development during a session in the State Assembly.

The government also aims to address the shortage of medical professionals by recruiting 5,248 MBBS doctors. Additionally, plans are underway to increase the number of hospital beds from the current 16,918 to meet the required 34,000, with a target of adding 17,000 new beds in the coming years.

In a broader vision, the state government is committed to setting up a medical college in every district, with two new colleges expected to open this year.

The government has also integrated the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana with the state’s health schemes, aiming to provide healthcare benefits to over 3.52 crore beneficiaries.
