The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a seven-day forecast warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, and rising humidity across Odisha beginning April 26.

Multiple districts remain under a yellow warning for adverse weather conditions.

Southern, northern, and coastal districts, including Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, will see light to moderate rain or thundershowers. The IMD cautioned that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph may occur during the afternoon and evening hours, posing risks to outdoor activities and infrastructure.

Coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khordha will experience hot and humid conditions, adding discomfort despite scattered rainfall. By April 27–28, storm activity will intensify in southern and northern Odisha, with wind speeds rising to 40–50 kmph in districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Koraput.

The IMD forecast indicates widespread thunderstorm activity across South Odisha and the North Coastal regions by April 30 and May 1. Districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kalahandi are likely to face thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

On May 1–2, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. Authorities urged residents to remain cautious, avoid open areas during lightning, and follow local advisories.
