Odisha is set to experience much-needed relief from soaring temperatures as the Kalbaisakhi rains, also known as the Nor’wester rains, are expected to commence today.
The regional meteorological department forecasts significant weather changes, including thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures.
Drop in Temperatures:
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that temperatures across the state will drop, with thunderstorms contributing to a cooling effect that may persist until April 22. Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature yesterday at 39.8°C, with no cities crossing the 40°C mark.
Weather Warnings Issued:
- Day 1 (March 19): A Yellow Warning for heatwave conditions in isolated areas, including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Sonepur districts.
- Days 2–3 (March 20–21): Orange and Yellow Warnings for thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds up to 40-50 km/h in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. Some areas may experience wind speeds reaching 30-40 km/h.
- Days 4–5 (March 21–22): Thunderstorm activity intensifies with an Orange Warning for hail and gusty winds reaching 50-60 km/h in parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

Residents are urged to stay prepared for weather fluctuations and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.
